Latina

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.

In manus Tuas, Domine, commendo spiritum meum. Redemisti me, Domine, Deus veritatis. Custodi nos, Domine, ut pupillam oculi; sub umbra alarum Tuarum protege nos. Amen.

English

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

I thank Thee, O Lord my God, for all the benefits Thou hast bestowed upon me this day. Forgive whatever I have sinned by thought, word, deed or omission.

Into Thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit. Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord, God of truth. Keep us, O Lord, as the apple of Thine eye; protect us under the shadow of Thy wings. Amen.

Deutsch

Amen.

Explanation and method

Thanksgiving

Recall the benefits of the day and thank God for creation, redemption, the Catholic faith, the sacraments and every particular grace.

Examination and contrition

Ask light from the Holy Ghost; review duties toward God, neighbour and one’s state of life; accuse oneself without excuses; make a firm purpose and an act of contrition.

From private prayer to Compline

Compline completes the Christian day with Psalm 4, Psalm 90, the Nunc dimittis, the Marian antiphon and the prayer Visita, quaesumus, Domine.
