Moreover, at Rome, in the way called Appia, the birth-day of the Saints Calocerus and Parthenius, eunuchs of whom the former, being chief chamberlain to the wife of Decius the emperor, and the other also a principal officer, for refusing to sacrifice unto idols, were by the said Decius put to death.

Item Romae, via Appia, natalis sanctorum Caloceri et Parthenii eunuchorum; quorum prior, cum esset praepositus cubiculi uxoris Decii Imperatoris, posterior vero alterius muneris primicerius, et ambo nollent idolis sacrificare, idcirco, ejusdem Imperatoris jussu variis ac diris sunt excruciati suppliciis, ac tandem, cervicibus ardenti fuste contusis, spiritum Deo tradiderunt.
