The Cummine2 here mentioned was king of West Munster, and was a sage ; and Fiachna begat him per ebrietatem on his own daughter. And he questioned the daughter : ' By whom hast thou him ? ' And the daughter said ' By thee.' And Fiachna said : ' He must die ' ; * Be it so,' says the girl. But when he was born he was brought to Cell Ite, and there he was left on the top of a cross in a little basket (cuimiri) : hence he was called Cuimmin, and there he was nursed and taught, and no one knew whence he was until his mother came one day to visit him to the house of Ite's successor. And Ite's successor was not there when she came, and Cuimmin asked for a drink, and his mother gave him the Abbess' bowl to drink from, and he drank it. Wherefore the abbess rebuked her for giving him the vessel, and then the mother said, ' Notice not,' etc., and the staves after it :3
