Inis-Cathaigh
Martyrological notice
Senan, Bishop, of Inis-Cathaigh, son of Gerrginn. He was of the race of Conaire, son of Mogh-lamha. This is the Senán whom Patrick foretold before his birth, when the Corco-Baiscinn came across the Luimneach from the north to him to ask to be bap- tized. And Patrick said to them, that there was an illustrious child among them then in a woman’s womb, who should baptize them afterwards, i.e. Senán. And he foretold that Senán would occupy the island, as was afterwards fulfilled ; for it was Senán that blessed Inis-Cathaigh, and expelled from it the monster, fium which the island was named, i.e., Cáthach, and this mon- ster used to injure people and cattle, so that it durst not be inhabited or occupied until Senán came, as is said in his life.
