Tadhg, son of Cian, was engaged in the battle of Crinna, and for his services therein, received, in the year 226, the territory in Bregia, which was afterwards called by the tribe name, derived from his father, Cian- achta. He must, therefore, have lived 206 years more in order to have done what is here stated. The Life of St. Benen here cited seems to have been compiled by a most reckless or ignorant biographer. Farther, the memoir ut St Patrick, in the Book of Armagh, which is the earliest authority on the subject, states that St Patrick found Benignus with his father Seaceneus, — fol. 9 6 a. (R.)
