Chronologie & Methode

Church history within world chronology

One chronological field, distinct historical layers

The Church-history records are integrated as a dated layer of the existing world atlas. They do not replace political, geographic or archaeological records, and they are not isolated in a separate chronology.

Open the research indexBrowse places

Church events as a dated layerFrom Pentecost to the present

Church events retain their own titles, dates, places, source references and confidence labels while appearing on the same axis as political units, rulers, migrations and cultural change. Shared identifiers connect exact Church-history companions without erasing the original record identities.

Apostolic and Roman-road geographyRoutes are evidence, not decoration

Apostolic travel, ports, imperial roads and later mission routes can be compared geographically. The preserved Roman-road network remains a transport layer; it does not by itself prove that a named person travelled every segment. Narrative claims must still be supported by Acts, letters, itineraries or other dated witnesses.

Councils inside political geographyAssembly, empire and reception

Ecumenical and regional councils can be located within the political geography of their time. The map helps explain travel, imperial centres and regional churches, while the doctrinal page establishes what kind of act was issued and how it was received. Geography and authority answer different questions and must remain distinct.

Officeholders and parallel successionsCompare without conflating

Papal, episcopal, royal and civil officeholders may overlap in time, but overlap alone does not establish dependence or causation. Biographical profiles and officeholder series allow the reader to identify who held which office, where and when, before interpreting a conflict or alliance.

Source confidence and map semanticsWhat the map can and cannot claim

Points, routes, schematic areas and reconstructed boundaries carry different evidential weight. A representative point is not silently converted into a diocese or empire; a catalogue record is not described as a verified full text. Open the linked source and profile pages to see the evidence class behind the symbol.

Return from map to historical argumentGeography supports the narrative

The map is a research instrument within the wider History system. After locating an event or place, return to the period page, dossier or thematic history page for the narrative, institutional distinctions and moral judgement. This keeps geography, chronology and interpretation joined without making them interchangeable.

01

The genealogies are the backbone of world history

Genesis 5, 10 and 11 are not placed beside world history as a devotional appendix. Adam, Noah and the forefathers of the nations precede the later historical appearance of peoples and kingdoms.

02

Three chronologies, one historical axis

The internal axis uses historical years, while the display simultaneously translates them into the Byzantine–Septuagint world era, the Hebrew world era and BC/AD. The calendar-year conversion is approximate because the eras begin on different days.

03

Biblical origin and later external witness are distinguished

Scripture supplies the historical genealogy and origin framework. Inscriptions, archaeology and secular histories document the later visible form, location and chronology of peoples, cities and states; they are cited separately.

04

No false precision

Modern surveyed borders are not projected backwards. Solid outlines, dashed borders, hatching and dotted theological schematics distinguish political cores, approximate frontiers, influence zones and sacred-history diagrams.

SOURCE METHOD

How evidence is presented

Biblical witness

Genesis and the other genealogical passages are the primary historical source for Adam, Noah and the descent of the nations. They determine the order of the atlas, while the plotted position of an early forefather remains a didactic map symbol rather than a claimed street address.

Historical and archaeological witness

Ancient texts, inscriptions, archaeological objects and modern reference works show when and where descendant peoples become externally visible. They supplement the biblical genealogy without replacing it.

Dating differences

The public biblical timeline never places a descendant culture before its forefather. Where conventional archaeological dating begins earlier, that range is preserved and shown separately in the dating tab instead of silently determining the biblical sequence.

Open scholarly revision

The data model is designed for additional geometry snapshots, sources, bibliography and Catholon article links. Every later correction can be made in the data without rebuilding the interface.
