Latina

Amen.

Pater noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra.

Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie; et dimitte nobis debita nostra, sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris; et ne nos inducas in tentationem; sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum; benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto.

Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

Nunc dimittis servum tuum, Domine, secundum verbum tuum in pace.

Quia viderunt oculi mei salutare Tuum.

Amen.

Amen.

English

We adore Thee, most Holy Trinity, and thank Thee for all the benefits of this day.

Come, Holy Ghost, and enlighten my conscience.

I confess to almighty God, to blessed Mary ever Virgin, to blessed Michael the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, to all the Saints, and to you, brethren, that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word and deed: through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault.

Therefore I beseech blessed Mary ever Virgin, blessed Michael the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, all the Saints, and you, brethren, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

O my God, I am heartily sorry for all my sins and I detest them, because by sinning I have deserved the punishments justly appointed by Thee, but most of all because I have offended Thee, the supreme Good, worthy to be loved above all things. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Now Thou dost dismiss Thy servant, O Lord, according to Thy word in peace.

Because my eyes have seen Thy salvation.

Which Thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples.

A light to the revelation of the Gentiles and the glory of Thy people Israel.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Visit, we beseech Thee, O Lord, this dwelling, and drive far from it all snares of the enemy. Let Thy holy Angels dwell herein to preserve us in peace, and let Thy blessing be always upon us. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Explanation and method

Order of the fuller form

Thank God for the day, ask light, examine duties and faults, make contrition and a practical purpose, then commend body and soul to God before sleep.

Connection with Compline

Compline gives the evening rule its ecclesial completion through psalmody, the Nunc dimittis, protection during the night and the seasonal Marian antiphon.
